Parade of Working Gundogs at the National Countrysports Fair
Parade Of Gundogs
 |
|
The mention of the word
gundog conjures up an image of Labrador retrievers and springer
spaniels. Gundogs
extend beyond these two breeds even if they are the most popular
ones on the Island of Ireland!
There are over forty different breeds of
gundogs in the British Isles, Europe and North America regularly
worked in the shooting field.
Whilst we may not have all the different breeds of
gundogs for you at the National Countrysports Fair in Moira
Demesne this year, we have brought together quite a number of
them for you to enjoy.
|
There are too many breeds to mention here
individually but
they will be divided into the four main gundog groups of: retrievers,
spaniels, pointers & setters and hunt point and retrieve breeds (HPR). The dogs' owners
will be at the fair for the entire weekend so there is ample opportunity
to meet the dogs and chat to their handlers about what the dogs do in
the shooting field and learn something about their history.
Each day
in the fair's Main Arena the handlers of these diverse breeds of working
gundogs will parade them for everyone to see.
Expert commentary from one of Ireland's foremost authorities on
gundogs will take the visitor through the main gundog groups and the
variety of breeds that make up each group.
If you are the owner or the handler of a working gundog and would
like to enter the Parade of Working Gundogs at the National
Countrysports Fair then we would love to
hear from you!
